Ex'pression College Engages BrandSequence

San Francisco - February 13, 2004

Ex'pression College for Digital Arts, a new media arts college located in Emeryville, California, has retained BrandSequence to do a brand research project for their marketing efforts.

Ex'pression is a unique new educational institution focused on media arts that grants Bachelor's degrees in three programs: Sound Arts; Digital Visual Media (including animation, 3D modeling and special effects); and Digital Graphic Design. Founded in 1998 by Gary Platt and Eckart Wintzen, Ex'pression uses the concept of Total Immersion as its teaching philosophy. Students live and learn in the culture of Digital Media for approximately 2 years, and every 5 weeks a new class starts. Instead of a "Chinese menu" approach to learning, typical of most colleges and universities, Ex'pression leads students into the jobs they passionately desire, by training them more as a mentor would.

According to Karen Wertman, Ex'pression's Marketing Director, "We need to get a clear picture of our brand with our core constituents, the students. The media arts environment is very hot right now, with new jobs being created all the time. The educational environment is also very competitive. There are many offerings for students to choose from, but none have quite the mix of curriculum, faculty, facilities and industry involvement that we do. What BrandSequence brings to the table is a unique method for us to talk to students and other people in the 'brandscape' in a way that brings the critical perceptions to the surface, where we can work with them."

BrandSequence is a market research and strategy firm located in San Francisco. It offers a new type of brand attribute research that maps and measures brands in customers' minds in order to maximize positioning and competitive strategy.
